Storing and transporting VYALEV and its delivery system

  • Even while being transported, vials need to be refrigerated at 2°C–8°C. Do not freeze.
  • Vials may be kept at room temperature up to 30°C for a single period of up to 28 days. Once the medicine has been stored at room temperature, do not return it to the refrigerator.
  • Ensure that the syringe, vial adapter and infusion set tubing remain in their sterile packaging until time of use. Do not use these items if their sterile packaging has been damaged prior to use.
Tell your care team about any upcoming trips you have planned. They may be able to help you assess what you may need to ensure that you have everything required for your VYALEV treatment during your trip.

Taking a trip with VYALEV

If you’re planning a trip or holiday, it’s a good idea to think about your health needs so you can have a smooth journey.

Here are some important things to think about when planning to travel with VYALEV:

Plan a comfortable journey

Pack items that can help make the journey more comfortable, such as neck pillows and blankets. Use your VYALEV carrying accessory to help carry your treatment when you are out and about.

Pack enough medication

Pack your VYALEV medication and supporting items as listed above. It may be a good idea to pack extra vials and supporting items in case your plans unexpectedly change.

Think about other health needs

If you’re taking other medications or require a backup oral medication, remember to pack those too.

Travelling on airlines

It’s best to call your airline in advance to check any specific guidelines or security requirements they have about travelling with infusion therapy.

Domestic travel

When travelling domestically, a convenient option may be to take your script with you and have VYALEV dispensed by a pharmacy at your destination within Australia. Remember, your VYALEV vials can be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C for a single period) for up to 28 days.

All pharmacies around Australia can fill a VYALEV script. However, you will need to take all of your supporting items with you. Refer to the Items to take with you section above.

Before you travel:

Call a pharmacy at your destination ahead of your arrival and let them know you have a script for VYALEV that you would like to have dispensed. Pharmacies across Australia can order VYALEV in for you, usually within 24 hours, if you call ahead.

If the destination pharmacy is happy to assist with dispensing of your VYALEV script, they may give you instructions to support this process.

Once you arrive at your destination, contact the pharmacy to make sure they have your VYALEV medication and agree on a dispensing date.

Remember to plan with your prescribing specialist and care team to ensure you obtain the right amount of VYALEV to cover you while you are away, and that you will be able to store VYALEV correctly while travelling.

International travel

It is important to plan well ahead if you are travelling internationally. Here are some things to consider:

  • Read the travel advice from Smartraveller before you travel.
  • The Therapeutic Goods Administration also provides useful information for patients travelling with medicines and medical devices.
  • Carry a letter from your doctor detailing what the medicine is, how much you’ll be taking and stating the medicine is for your personal use or the personal use of someone you care for.
  • Leave the medicine in its original packaging so it can be easily identified.
